Child safety standards
PIING has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This page is our published standard. It applies to every part of PIING: chats, groups, stories, channels, Live, profiles and business pages.
What is banned
- Any image, video, text, audio, link or live stream that sexualises a child, including drawn, edited or AI-generated material.
- Grooming: building trust with a child to sexually abuse or exploit them, on or off PIING.
- Sextortion: threatening to share intimate images of a child or asking a child for them.
- Trafficking, selling or advertising children for sex, or sharing where to find such material.
- Any attempt to contact a child for any of the above.
PIING is for people aged 16 and over. Public and community Live is for 18 and over. Accounts that break this standard are removed and cannot come back.
How to report
- In the app: press and hold a message, story, comment or live, or open a profile, and tap Report. Choose Child safety. You can also block the person in the same step.
- By email: support@piingapp.co.uk with “Child safety” in the subject.
- If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (UK) or your local emergency number first. In the UK you can also report to CEOP and report images or videos to the Internet Watch Foundation.
Do not download, forward or screenshot the material to send it to us. Reporting it in the app is enough.
What we do
- Child-safety reports are reviewed before other reports.
- When we become aware of CSAM, we remove it, ban the account and any linked accounts, and preserve the information the law requires.
- We report confirmed CSAM to the National Crime Agency (UK) and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and we co-operate with law enforcement requests made through the proper legal process.
- Public images on PIING (profile photos, public posts and stories, public Live) are checked by an automatic nudity filter before they are shown, and anything it flags is held for review.
- End-to-end encrypted messages cannot be read by PIING. Reports from the people in the chat are how we learn about them, which is why reporting matters.
Law
PIING is run by Hectic Software Ltd (Companies House 17514067) in England and Wales. We follow UK law, including the Online Safety Act 2023, and the child-safety laws of the countries where PIING is available.
Child safety contact
Our designated contact for child safety, including for app stores and law enforcement, is the PIING safety team at support@piingapp.co.uk. This person can explain our review and enforcement process and act on a report.
