Teens and parents

13 and up, private from the start.

PIING is for people aged 13 and over. When a new account's date of birth shows you're 13 to 17, it starts with our most private settings, so only people you know can reach you.

Teen account defaults

  • Messages and calls from contacts onlyStrangers can't message or call you.
  • Only contacts can add you to groupsNo surprise group chats from people you don't know.
  • Phone number hiddenNobody can see your number on your profile.
  • Not findable by number or usernamePeople can't search for you; you add friends by sharing your link or QR code.
  • Last seen and profile photo for contacts only
  • Location sharing offNothing is shared on the Friends Map unless you turn it on and pick who sees it.

These defaults are designed with the UK Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code) in mind. You can change some of them later in Settings > Privacy. Paid features that are coming soon, like PIING Coins and geofilters, will have extra limits for under-18s.

For parents

Talk about it

Go through Settings > Privacy together, and agree who your teen shares their location with.

Show them how to block and report. Our team reviews reports.

Screen Time

Use Screen Time on iPhone to set limits for PIING and other apps.
