Festivals
Lost signal by the main stage? Keep talking.
Tens of thousands of phones on one field can jam the network. PIING Nearby keeps your messages moving phone to phone over Bluetooth, so you can still find your friends.
What works on a festival field
No-signal chats
One-to-one and group messages hop through up to 5 PIING phones over Bluetooth, end-to-end encrypted, so phones in between can't read them.
Event chats by QR code
Organisers make an event in PIING and print one QR code. Guests scan it and land in the same chat, which keeps going over Bluetooth when the signal drops.
Walkie-talkie and photos
Short voice clips and a small photo, enough for "we're by the flag".
SOS
Alert every PIING phone in range with your name and location. It doesn't replace 999 or 112: call them first if you can.
Before you go
- Install PIING and add your friendsOpen a chat with each friend once while you're online, so your phones swap the keys Nearby needs.
- Leave Bluetooth onNearby turns on by itself when your signal drops.
- Agree a meeting pointBluetooth reaches roughly 10 to 50 metres per phone, so a plan B always helps.
Running an event? See PIING Events. It's free for organisers and guests.
Questions
Does PIING work at a festival with no signal?
Yes. PIING Nearby sends messages over Bluetooth between PIING phones, with no internet, SIM or mast needed. It works best where lots of people have PIING.
Does it drain my battery?
Nearby only turns on when your signal drops and switches off once you're back online. A power bank is still a good idea.
Is it free?
Yes. Messaging, calls, Nearby and SOS are free, with no ads.
